13 Weeks Left Until Launch – Branding

With the collection design and sourcing well under way, I decided to spend some time working on our brand image.

The design and quality of our collection is very important but equally so, is our brand image and communication. We have to make sure that we communicate what we would like to communicate with our customers, in a way that is clear and concise. We have to make sure that our communication says what we would like it to say. This is critical for any brand but even more so for a small brand with a strong ethos, like us.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, I had several meetings with some very talented branding companies but in the end, I decide to just do it myself due to my tight budget. I wanted to spend the money on paying for sampling and marketing. I also wanted to make sure that we have a little spare money to keep us going post-launch. A healthy cash-flow is critical in running a fashion brand (I learnt that lesson the hard way).

Anyway, back to branding. I wanted to create something fresh, modern but yet gave the impression of something quite natural and perhaps childlike and playful.

This is what I came up with.

Once the logo was designed, the rest kind of just followed and I started looking at stationery, packaging, as well as other marketing materials. Although, I won’t be needing all of that yet, it is important to get an idea of how everything will work together before finalising the initial designs. This will make sure that everything stays connected in the final stages.

With this initial concept in mind, I created and uploaded our new branding across our social media channels ( Facebook, Instagram , Twitter and here on the blog) to get a feel for the new look. Do you like it ?

Now I just have to resolve the printing issue. Normal printers don’t print using white ink, making it impossible to print white on kraft-paper. The only option is screen-printing them but this method will be quite costly. Let’s see what I come up with.
