Raf Simons and I

Raf Simons is the current artistic director of Dior but planning to leave because, apparently he has had enough.

Ok, so i am not as well known and perhaps not as successful as Raf Simons (yet) but it seems we are having the same issues or at least did.  I decided a while back to stop and make a change in both the way I live and the way I run my business.

Read my previous post about why I decided to start again here.

It is tiring trying to figure out new ways to do everything but I am sure, at the end of it, it will all be worth it.

The fashion business is relentless !

You have to produce, not like it used to be, 2 collections a year, now in high fashion it is 6 collections a year and even more for fast fashion brands like Zara, where they have new collections being released and in-store every few days !!!

If someone in the position of Raf Simons, with a huge team to help him, finds it difficult to keep up, imagine small brands like ours, where a lot of stuff needs to be done by ourselves !

The children’s fashion market is slightly more lenient but still , for me it just wasn’t sustainable. Something had to change.

At the end of the day, it is all about money, sales and profit margins … sadly.

Everything is done in three weeks, maximum five. You have no incubation time for ideas, and incubation time is very important. (Raf Simons)

Read interview with Raf and let me know what you think.

Do you have your own fashion brand ? How do you maximise profit, while maintaining maximum creativity ?
